This is Melody, my newest bear.

I started working on her before I went to Florida and could now finally finish her.

She is one-of-a-kind and crocheted. Melody measures about 10 inches and wears a hooded vest which I knitted from a bright pink yarn. I also made a matching removable bow for her "hair".

I am back in North Carolina after spending almost 2 weeks in Florida. This time the 10 hour drive back wasn't too bad and went by rather quickly, at least it didn't feel "never-ending" like in other years.

The 2-day doll- and bear show in Naples turned out to be another delightful and successful one. I met again old friends and collectors and the weather was very cooperative.

Now I am working on new bears as the Tampa show in Florida is coming up quickly. This is another show I am looking forward to.

The pictures in this post were taken with my Iphone during one of my morningwalks in Florida. Hope you will enjoy them!

Another bear is born!

Blake will come with me to Florida where we will do the Naples Doll and Bear Show.
But first I am going to spend some nice days with family and friends enjoying the Florida weather on the east coast.

Today started again with sunshine and blue sky and I am looking forward to a nice weekend.

I will take my dog Raven for a long walk and then help in my son-in-law's wine store.

In the afternoon I plan to head out with my camera and try to get some pictures taken.
The day looks just so inviting!

The new year is almost a week old and I just noticed that I haven't posted since the end of 2011.

The holidays were very pleasant but now I am ready to start "normal" life again. I am looking forward to spring, although we didn't have winter yet. The weather was more spring-like than wintery.

Today I took all my Christmas decoration off, indoors and outdoors. Now I am preparing for Florida.

I will leave next week to visit friends and family and also do the Naples doll show. This show is in my show calender for many years and I am always looking forward to it. Before leaving there is still a lot to do! But it will all be worth it!

The weather has been beautiful for the last week and it is supposed to stay this way for the coming week. Each day there is lots of sunshine, blue sky and the temperatures are just perfect.

I haven't found time to update my blog since I am enjoying spending wonderful time with my family who has taken time off between Christmas and New Year's.

Besides this I have been working on another bear. This is my last one for the year 2011. She is white and stands about 10 inches tall. I will try to take and post pictures tomorrow.

A mohair bear for a change!

My newest member of the bearkidz-family is Martin.

At my visit in October to the Euro-Teddy show in Essen (Germany) I had bought some mohair fabric,

just in case .... !

Sometimes I want to work with a different material, other than yarn and it is nice to have some materials on hand when the mood strikes. Exactly this is what happened, and the result is Martin.

He is 7.5 inches tall and made from sparse German mohair. His face is needle felted, his paw pads are made from a suede-like fabric. I have applied shading with dry oil paint and knitted a hooded vest. Martin is disk/cotter pin jointed and weighted for a nice feel.

I leave the door to my backyard open so Raven can walk in and out as she pleases.

You will always find her carrying one of her teddy bears around! Raven has her own collection! She owns a panda, the one in the picture and another brown bear. I am only glad that she knows which ones are hers and which ones are mine!

I just noticed that I haven't posted in a while. Once again, I don't know where the time went!
I have to admit that I devoted more time to my hobby photography than to crocheting bears! A little bear is in the making for quite a while, but still waiting to get finished. However, sometimes it is good to be creative in a different field! You develop new ideas and keep your creativity on a fresh level!

Here I am showing another oldie: Autumn. Autumn was, if I remember correctly, 16 inches tall. I had crocheted her from a vibrant eyelash yarn in fall shades, hence her name Autumn. Autumn has long been adopted and since I didn't get a chance to take a picture of my newest little bear, I thought another oldie would be good too.

This week flew by so quickly. And it is always the same: before you leave on a trip you have to think of so many things to do, and when you come back, so much has piled up! My Germany visit seems so long ago!

Finally I got over my cold which I had caught from a fellow passenger who was sitting next to me for 9.5 hours on my flight from Germany to the US. He was coughing and sneezing during the whole flight and there was no escape, the flight was fully booked! Next time I will carry a mouth mask in my carry on luggage!

Back in the US! I had a great time in Germany but now it is time to work on bears again!
My newest one is Wilbur, the one in the picture. I had finished him before my trip but still needed to give him something to wear! His outfit was knitted high in the sky during my flight! Knitting or crocheting on a long plane ride makes the time appear so much shorter!

Today the weather started getting better, the weekend is supposed to have nice Fall days for us in store. I am looking forward to seeing the sun but with comfortable cooler temperatures.

In my MacBook I found this picture of another oldie, Pepper the dog. Pepper was born in 2006 and has long ago been adopted.

I found one problem with my blog at this time: I can't reply to posts in my blog nor post in any other blogs. I can only post my own posts in my own blog. I have no clue why, but I just wanted to let you know! Could it have to do with the fact that I am in Germany?

Day 5 of my Germany visit was a rainy one. Despite the rain I had a great time with my family. I bought some new yarns and whenever there is time, I am knitting little outfits for my bears.

Today was day no. 4 in Germany. So far I had a great time. On Saturday I visited the Euro-Teddy where I met old and new friends. The bears at the Euro-Teddy were wonderful. You could find everything bear: antique bears, artist bears, manufactured bears, bear accessories, some dolls, and of course lots of bear making supplies!

It is time to start packing for my trip to Germany. On Saturday I will be at the Euro-Teddy where I will meet up with lots of "bear people" and also stock up on some bear supplies! I am looking forward to this trip, just not to the long flight!
My yarn and knitting/crochet needles, a book and my ipod will hopefully make this flight not seem too long!

Today I got a chance to take some pictures of my newest bear Joshua. I had fun making him a little baby boy with bent limbs and very poseable. I also made a pillow for him and needle felted a tiny toy bear for Joshua to play with. To keep him warm I knitted his little outfit from premium angora yarn.

Fall is officially here! But I am still waiting for the beautiful fall days with cooler temperatures!So far we have had only lots of rain and it is very humid and warm.

My dog Raven doesn't really mind the wet ground and even rolled in the mud! She came home covered with lots of wet leaves! I didn't think it was funny since she made sure to shake them off in the house before I could prevent her from coming in.

I have finished two more bears and knitted little outfits for them. As soon as it stops raining I will hopefully be able to take pictures which I like to take outside.

I just noticed that I haven't posted in a while. Time flies too fast!

There were just so many little and larger things to take care of. One of the larger things was that one of our dogs needed surgery. She had a torn ligament, but is now on her way to recovery and still needs special care.

I managed to finish a small bear but didn't get a chance to take pictures yet. Tomorrow looks very promising for a bear photo session.

I also booked my flight to Germany and will be at the Euro-Teddy in October. I am looking forward to meeting old friends and see what's new in the teddy bear world.

Today we have a gorgeous day with perfect temperatures, around 80 degrees, sunshine and blue sky. Fall is in the air!

It is extremely warm and I am so much looking forward to my favorite season of the year: Fall! After the earthquake we had a couple of days ago, we are now waiting for Hurricane Irene to pass by. Another bearkidz bear is "born": Rascal. I have chosen this name although I already made a Rascal several years ago. The "old" Rascal has never been offered for sale and is part of my personal collection. Therefore I felt comfortable to name this little one Rascal as well. This was the name that came to my mind the moment I saw the spiky fur developing when I crocheted him. I also knitted his hoodie and crocheted the blanket he sits on.

The weekend was hot and humid but still very nice. I couldn't get myself to start working on a new bear and instead crocheted a dress and panties for one of my Heidi Ott dolls. As soon as I get a chance to take a picture I will post one.
In the meantime I will introduce my bear Henrietta to you. Henrietta is huge! The picture shows her with a Princess Peggy doll by Horsman and a Patty Playpal by Ideal. If you are familiar with the size of these dolls (about 36 inches or 90 cm) you can imagine the size of Henrietta, the gentle giant!

Another oldie! Cecilia in a suitcase!

I am sitting at the airport, waiting for my flight to Germany. As it looks right now the flight will leave with a 2 hour delay which will make me miss my connection in Germany. Well, I am determined to take it easy. My hand luggage contains of course a crochet hook and yarn, not to make a bear, but to make some clothes for a mini doll. I used to crochet bears on my flights but it got always highly complicated when my yarn rolled off my lap directly under the seat in front of me or worse, into the aisle!

On Wednesday I am leaving for Germany. I am glad that I was able to finish and enter my URSA competition bear before leaving. I also have started working on another small bear but won't be able to work on it for the next 3 weeks. Hopefully the weather in Germany will be cooperative so that we can enjoy the time. I am so much looking forward to seeing my siblings and nieces and nephews.

Today I had a very productive day! Finally I can see the surface of my desk again! The piles of papers are gone, everything read, answered and filed! I even had time to play with a bear photo on my computer!

Each time it turns out to be the the same: I am gone for a couple of days and the "punishment" follows immediately after my return: trying to catch up with all the stuff that has piled up at home during my travels!

Of course, I also don't want to miss most of the tennis matches of the French Open!

At least I finished my new mini bear which ended up not being so mini, but rather 8 inches tall. I crocheted her from a charcoal and a purple eyelash yarn. She is a chubby little girl and her name is Josefina. She is available for adoption and will soon be added to my website.

Most likely there won't be another bearkidz bear in June. I am leaving for Germany next week and there is still so much to do.

This is the Turtle Mark (Schildkroet) doll I got at the doll show. The pictures don't show how cute she is and how nicely she is dressed. If I get a chance I will take another set of pictures.

The show was great! I met so many nice People and several of my bears found new families.

I always make it my goal to buy something at a show since shows only stay alive with dealers selling. On my search for a doll I found a German Turtle Mark (Schildkroet) doll which made it into my collection. She is a newer one from the 1990s with long human hair, dressed nicely and very cute.

I would have loved to get one from the 1950s or a Kathe Kruse. However, besides antique bisque dolls I couldn't find any other German doll. My doll collection has become quite large and I decided to focus on German Turtle Mark and Kathe Kruse dolls. I own already several and this way I don't bring too many dolls home, which is very hard to do! So many dolls "speak" to me: take me! lol

Another doll went home with me, a Colette doll which I traded for Frankie.

I will take pictures and post them tomorrow.

Florian is another new bearkidz-bear. He stands about 8 1/2 inches tall and is as all his bearkidz siblings entirely crocheted. He is dressed in a colorful outfit: a yellow crocheted jacket and a handmade hat in orange with purple trim. Around his neck he wears a figurine made from wooden beads. Looking at the flower Florian must have a green thumb!

It's been a while since my last posting. I was quite busy with working on new bears and lots of other stuff. Herbie is one of my latest bears. He is one of a kind and as always entirely crocheted. This little guy stands about 7 1/2 inches tall and I made a colorful hat and crocheted a matching collar for him.

When I saw him sitting together with one of my dolls I had to take a picture of both. There outfits are color-coordinated! I think Reagan and Herbie look so cute together!

Today I finally got to read my copy of Teddy Bear Review, issue June 2011.
I was pleasantly surprised to find my bear Leo pictured in an article called "Patriotic Pals"! Thank you TBR for printing a picture of Leo!

I also found an interesting article about the Tampa Show in February 2011. This show was really nice and I will definitely participate again in 2012. The article shows a picture with the participating URSA winners. The picture is a tiny one, but I can still recognize me! Reading this article reminds me of the good time we had during the show.

Of course there are so many beautiful bears to see and so many interesting bear things to read, I am looking forward to many more hours browsing through the magazine!

I am introducing Ava, a new bearkidz-baby. To crochet Ava I have used a soft chenille yarn. She stands 10.5 inches tall and wears a handsculpted tiny teddy bear around her neck. Ava is available for adoption.

The weekend was beautiful with temperatures around 75 degrees, sunshine and nature waking up from winter. One day I spent going to a bead show with my daughter which was a lot of fun. Today I enjoyed a quiet day with my dog Raven. We took a long walk and also some quality time in the sunny backyard.

This weekend was just wonderful. 6 weeks ago we had snow, although only for 2 days, and today we had 82 degrees, blue sky and sunshine. Some trees already have pink blossoms and look just beautiful! Spring is around the corner!

It looks like spring is just around the corner. When walking my dog today I saw the first daffodils and crocuses, so nice! The sun was shining, it was a little on the cool side but wonderful. I took some pictures of new bears which I hadn't had an opportunity yet. The one I am showing here is Toni, an 11" bear girl which I crocheted from a variety of very soft yarns.

I am leaving Tampa today and it will be a long drive home. Valerie had organized an exciting event, her 600th show. Congratulations Valerie! I got to meet old friends and collectors and made new friends and met new collectors. We had a great time and I will definitely come back next year. But now it is time to get packed and to get on my way home where my dog Raven is waiting for me! She is also a bear collector and is showing 2 of her bears in the photos. You will hardly ever see her without carrying one around.

The ususal: Just saw that I didn't post for quite a while. I have been busy working on new bears which I will bring to the show in Tampa (Florida) on February 20th. If I get a chance I will take pictures and post them ahead of the show. However, not all of them, some will be "surprise" bears!

Today a new bear was finished and I named him Louis. Louis is one of a kind and crocheted from a blend of very soft yarns. He is dressed in a cute jacket which I crocheted just for him. He will go with me to the Show in Tampa (Florida) on February 20th.

It is already Thursday and I don't know where my time went. Well, some of it went into bear making, that I know.
I am working on a new bear but until he or she is finished it will take a while. In the meantime I thought to show some of the bears from my personal collection.

I love Steiff Zotties! I have several in my collection, from small to larger. Their happy faces make you smile! In this picture are 4 of the smaller ones. Aren't they cute?

I am back in North Carolina after spending almost 2 weeks in Florida. The weather was beautiful and each day we walked about 3.2 miles enjoying the Floridian scenery.
Now it is back to work on bears!

We got up very early to drive from Florida's east coast to Naples on the west coast. Arriving in Naples it was very cold, colder than in other years. The first show day was again enjoyable and some bears found new homes. I also found a new doll that I had to adopt, her face is just too cute! One can never have enough dolls and bears! lol
I am looking forward to tomorrow's second show day which hopefully will be a little more on the warmer side.

I am having a wonderful time in South Florida. My friend Jane and I went for a long walk this morning and spent the rest of the day with my kids. The weather was perfect, a little on the cool side but sunny and nice.
Tomorrow morning we will leave for the doll show in Naples which will go on for two days. I am very much looking forward to it.

Last week went by so quickly ..... ! It was very cold but still sunny which I actually liked a lot. I am almost finished crocheting a new bear and will post pictures as soon as I have finished this little one. Looking at him now I would say he is about 8 1/2 inches tall and will be very cute!

Happy 2nd Advent!

Friday and Saturday I attended a doll/bear show in South Carolina where several of my bears found a new family. For myself I couldn't resist to adopt a 35 inches tall Patti Playpal type doll! She is huge! But she is so cute and I am glad I finally gave in and got one.

Had a really enjoyable day. Set up my Christmas tree and decorated the house.
I also finished little Timmy. Timmy is one of a kind, entirely crocheted and stands about 11 inches tall. His best friend is his little needle felted dog Buster.
